Strategy & Planning

The process of planning is as important as the final written plan. This means the planning process must involve the ideas, energies and commitment of the people who ultimately must implement the actions of the plan.

The best strategy and planning processes are both inspirational and practical. Early in the process, participants should create a longer-term Vision of their preferred future. Toward the end of the process, they should write detailed Action Plans for moving toward that future, in the shorter term.

Effective planning always results in specific actions and responsibilities to improve the strength and capacities of the organization. Effective processes are specific in identifying who will do what, by when, to achieve the organization’s Objectives.

Planning should become an integral and routine part of the organization’s management system. It defines the most important priorities and responsibilities, drives the budget, and shapes today’s activities.
